More health-care training opportunities are on the way in southeastern New Brunswick.
The provincial government is investing $9.9 million over three years to expand health-care education at Collège communautaire du Nouveau-Brunswick (CCNB) in Dieppe, with the goal of helping address workforce shortages in critical health professions.
According to the Department of Post-Secondary Education, Training and Labour, the funding will support new facilities and additional training programs, including pharmacy technician and primary care paramedic programs, which are scheduled to begin in the fall of 2027.
“We are proud to be able to offer world-class post-secondary education right here at home,” said Post-Secondary Education and Training Minister Jean-Claude D’Amours in a government news release. He said the expansion will help meet growing demand for qualified health-care professionals while supporting the needs of New Brunswick’s francophone communities.
As part of the project, construction will soon begin on six modular classrooms and six health-care laboratories at the Dieppe campus.
The province estimates the expansion will lead to more than 330 additional graduates over the next five years in key health-care fields.
CCNB president and CEO Pierre Zundel said the addition of new programs reflects growing demand for health-care training in southeastern New Brunswick.
“The Dieppe campus already offers about 40 regular programs and can accommodate approximately 840 students,” Zundel said in the release. He added that the campus modernization plan is designed to improve learning spaces and better respond to the needs of students and the community.
The investment comes as governments and health-care organizations across the province continue efforts to recruit and train more workers for the health sector.
