A new Harvard study found that traffic deaths increase about 15% on days when major albums are released. Researchers looked at albums from artists like Taylor Swift, Drake, and Bad Bunny and found an estimated 18 additional deaths on release days.
Yeah. Turns out the most dangerous thing on the highway isn’t speeding… it’s a surprise bonus track.
Researchers think distracted driving is the likely explanation, because apparently some people hear a new album drop and immediately decide, “You know what would make this better? Merging across three lanes.”
The study also found solo drivers were affected more than drivers with passengers. Which makes sense. A passenger can change the song. A solo driver has to risk the lives of everybody on Route 66 to skip the intro.
Meanwhile, classic rock fans were reportedly unaffected… because we’ve been listening to the same 300 songs since 1987, and we already know what’s coming next.
