Moncton Fire Department Fire Prevention Officer Chris Jackson says there are rules in place to prevent the start and spread of wild fires with respect to fire pits, but he says there are still other ways these fires can start that we need to be aware of.
Jackson says cigarette butts are common ignition sources for wildfires and citizens should avoid tossing lit butts out the window especially during dry windy periods.
Currently there is a province wide burn-ban in effect.
Jackson says people who live in heavily wooded areas can reduce their risk of fire by removing any possible fuel sources like loose brush or debris from their property.
