Curling fans in Moncton will have a national championship to look forward to in 2027.
Curling Canada announced today that Curl Moncton will host the 2027 Canadian Mixed Curling Championship from November 7-13, 2027, marking the first time the event has ever been staged in Moncton.
The championship will bring together the country’s top four-player mixed teams, featuring two men and two women representing each province and territory, along with Northern Ontario. The winning team will earn the opportunity to represent Canada at the 2028 World Mixed Curling Championship.
For a city with deep roots in the sport, the announcement is another milestone in a long and proud curling history.
A Championship with History Arrives in a Historic Curling City
The 2027 event will be the 64th edition of the Canadian Mixed Curling Championship, a competition that has been contested annually since 1964.
Curling Canada CEO Nolan Thiessen said Moncton is a natural fit for the event, citing both the city’s strong curling culture and its record of hosting major championships.
Moncton’s connection to curling stretches back more than a century. In fact, the city is currently celebrating 145 years of curling history, according to host committee chair Mike Doucette. Over those years, Moncton has welcomed some of the sport’s biggest events, building a reputation as one of the country’s premier curling destinations.
Curl Moncton Built on a Strong Foundation
Today’s Curl Moncton organization was formed in 2011 through the merger of the historic Beaver Curling Club and Beauséjour Curling Club. Two years later, the Moncton Curling Association, which dates back to 1881, joined the organization.
The unified club has created a modern and sustainable home for curling in southeastern New Brunswick. Alongside its five curling sheets, the facility now features six indoor pickleball courts and offers a wide range of programming, from recreational leagues and stick curling to Little Rocks and junior development programs.
The club most recently demonstrated its event-hosting capabilities during the 2024 Everest Canadian Senior Curling Championships, adding another successful chapter to an already impressive resume.
A Proven Host for Major Curling Events
Hosting national and international championships is nothing new for Moncton.
Among the city’s most notable curling events are:
- The 2009 World Men’s Curling Championship
- The 1956 and 1985 Briers
- The 1975 Canadian Women’s Curling Championship
- The 1952 and 1973 Canadian Junior Men’s Curling Championships
- The 2000 Canadian Under-20 Curling Championships
- The inaugural 2017 Canadian Under-18 Curling Championships
That experience was a key factor in securing the Canadian Mixed Championship.
Moncton Mayor Shawn Crossman says the event will provide an opportunity to showcase the city’s hospitality while delivering economic benefits for local businesses. It will also give local curlers and fans the chance to experience elite national competition without leaving home.
New Brunswick’s Strong Mixed Curling Tradition
The championship arrives at a time when New Brunswick is enjoying significant success on the mixed curling stage.
The province is the reigning Canadian Mixed Curling champion, thanks to Fredericton’s Team Rene Comeau, which captured the 2025 national title in Assiniboia, Saskatchewan. The team of Rene Comeau, Jennifer Fenwick, Alex Robichaud and Katie Vandenborre will represent Canada at the upcoming World Mixed Curling Championship.
New Brunswick has won the national mixed title three times in total:
- Grant Odishaw (1994)
- Terry Odishaw (2007)
- Rene Comeau (2025)
Curling NB Executive Director Marg Maranda says hosting the championship in Moncton provides another opportunity to showcase both the province’s curling excellence and its renowned hospitality.
First Time in New Brunswick Since 1983
While Moncton will be hosting the event for the first time, the championship has visited New Brunswick before.
The last time the Canadian Mixed Curling Championship was held in the province was 1983 in Saint John. Prior to that, Saint John also hosted the event in 1971.
When the championship arrives in Moncton in 2027, it will end a 44-year wait for the event’s return to New Brunswick.
For curling fans, volunteers and athletes, it’s an opportunity to celebrate the sport’s rich history while welcoming the next generation of champions to one of Canada’s most passionate curling communities.
With a proven venue, experienced organizers and a province riding a wave of success in mixed curling, the stage is set for Moncton to deliver a memorable Canadian championship in 2027.
