In a thrilling extra-innings battle, the Charlottetown Islanders emerged victorious over the Moncton Mets with a final score of 5-4. The game was a nail-biter, with both teams showcasing strong performances on the mound and at the plate.
The Islanders struck first, scoring a run in the opening inning. The Mets responded in the fourth inning, tying the game at 1-1. Moncton then took the lead in the fifth inning, scoring three runs to make it 4-1. However, Charlottetown fought back, adding a run in the fifth and two more in the seventh to tie the game at 4-4.
The game remained deadlocked until the eighth inning when the Islanders managed to push across the winning run. Max Jardine (W, 1-0) was stellar in relief, pitching 3.2 innings without allowing a run and striking out two. Tyler Taylor also contributed 4.1 innings, giving up four runs on six hits.
For the Mets, Kevin Aube (L, 2-2) took the loss, allowing one run in 1.2 innings of work. Justin Cormier pitched 6.1 innings, giving up four runs on six hits while striking out two.
Offensively, Jack Kraft led the Islanders with a standout performance, going 3-for-3 with a home run, a double, and four RBIs. Ryne MacIsaac and Max Jardine each added two hits, contributing to Charlottetown’s eight-hit effort.
On the Mets’ side, Luke Robison and John Haimowitz each had two hits, with Robison adding a double. Despite their efforts, the Mets fell just short in the tightly contested game.
The Islanders’ victory improves their record, while the Mets will look to bounce back in their next outing.
