
Moncton, June 9, 2024 – The Saint John Alpines secured a 12-7 victory over the Moncton Mets in a high-scoring New Brunswick Senior Baseball League game at Kiwanis Park on Sunday afternoon.
The Alpines jumped to an early lead, scoring five runs in the first inning and adding two more in the second. Despite a four-run rally by the Mets in the fourth inning, Saint John maintained their lead and sealed the win with four runs in the seventh inning.
Key players for the Alpines included Mark Phillips, who went 2-for-5 with three runs scored, and Matt Beach, who added two hits and an RBI. Devan Thomas and Cole Flowers each contributed with a hit and an RBI.
For the Mets, John Haimowitz led the offense, going 3-for-4 with an RBI, while Luc Vautour and Stefan Martin each added two hits and two RBIs. Despite their efforts, the Mets couldn’t overcome the Alpines’ early lead.
Saint John’s Ben Cairns earned the win, pitching four innings and allowing five runs on six hits. Ryan Galbraith closed out the game, allowing two runs on six hits over three innings. Moncton’s Kevin Aube took the loss, giving up five runs in just one-third of an inning.
The Mets will look to bounce back in their next game against the Chatham Ironmen on June 12th at Kiwanis Park. This game is a rescheduled matchup from June 2nd.
