Moncton, June 21, 2024 – The Moncton Wildcats have bolstered their roster by signing free agent defenceman Simon Mullen for the upcoming 2024-2025 season.
Mullen, a 6’3” left-handed shot from Truro, Nova Scotia, played last season with the Summerside Western Capitals in the Maritime Junior Hockey League (MHL) and represented Canada at the World Junior A Challenge.
“Simon is a player we identified early as someone who could come in and immediately help our roster. He is a long defenceman who defends hard and moves the puck very well for a player his size,” said Taylor MacDougall, General Manager and Director of Hockey Operations for the Moncton Wildcats. “He was an integral part of Summerside’s deep playoff run and excelled against strong competition at the World Junior A Challenge. He is coming from a great organization in Summerside, where he was well coached under Billy McGuigan and Pat McIver. Simon is someone we are very excited about adding to our defence core.”
Mullen expressed his enthusiasm about joining the Wildcats: “I’m excited about the opportunity to be part of something special in Moncton this year. When Gardiner and Taylor approached me about the opportunity and explained their vision moving forward, it was an opportunity I couldn’t turn down. It was a difficult decision as I have a lot of respect for Summerside and Coach McGuigan and also really took my National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) eligibility into consideration, but I’m confident that I’m taking a step to further my hockey journey and feel good to be a part of another great organization.”
The Wildcats are eager to see Mullen contribute to their success in the upcoming season.
