Moncton, June 19, 2024 – ACORN Tenant Union members at 185 McSweeny Avenue are taking action against a persistent bed bug infestation in their building. On Wednesday, June 19th, at 11 AM, tenants will gather to demand an end to the infestation and call for accountability from their landlord and the City of Moncton.
Tenants have reported that calls to their landlord have been met with obfuscation and blame-shifting, while the City of Moncton’s bylaw department has refused to take their complaints, ignoring Moncton bylaw Z-507 which enforces the provincial Residential Properties Maintenance and Occupancy Code.
ACORN’s State of Disrepair report highlights widespread substandard housing in New Brunswick and supports the tenants’ case for landlord registration. The tenants at 185 McSweeny Avenue are calling for immediate action to address the bed bug issue and ensure safe living conditions.
