After avenging their championship loss by beating the reigning champion Nova Scotia Buccaneers by a score of 26-17, the Mustangs stayed on the road, taking on the Saint John Wanderers at the Canada Games Stadium in their second game of the 2024 MFL season.
The Mustangs went scoreless in the first quarter, with Saint John scoring 9 points with a safety and a touchdown pass from Jon Golacki to Alex MacDonald. Moncton answered early in the second quarter off a touchdown run by Dylan Waugh and a PAT from Ben George. Saint John applied more pressure however, Jon Golacki scoring a rushing touchdown, but only leaving the possession with 6 points on the drive. The Mustangs’ Ben George knocked through a field goal near the end of the half to close the deficit to 15-10, with Saint John out in front.
The Mustangs roared to life in the second half, scoring 15 unanswered points and not allowing a single point in the second half by the Wanderers. The Mustangs’ points came from a safety of their own, another touchdown run by Dylan Waugh, as well as the PAT and two field goals from Ben George, putting the Mustangs on top 25-15 in a come from behind victory.
The Mustangs’ come home from a 2-0 road trip for their first home game of the season at Rocky Stone field in Moncton, where they will hope to defend their home turf against the Halifax Heat on Saturday, May 18th, at 5pm.
