#CFIArecall: Quaker brand granola bars and cereals and Cap’n Crunch brand Treat Bars – Berry Bar recalled due to Salmonella https://t.co/hm6NiZ6oUH
— Canadian Food Inspection Agency (@InspectionCan) January 12, 2024
Quaker Canada is announcing a voluntary recall of more than three dozen types of cereals and granola bars due to possible exposure to salmonella. The recall includes Harvest Crunch cereals, Chewy granola bars, Dipps granola bars, yogurt granola bars, as well as Cap’n Crunch treat bars. Both Quaker and Cap’n Crunch brands are owned by parent company PepsiCo. Quaker says it issued the recall in Canada out of an abundance of caution following a similar recall in the United States. The best before dates on the recalled products range from Jan. 11 to October 2024. The Canadian Food Inspection Agency says there have been no reported illnesses and that it is conducting a food safety investigation. The province says that property tax assessment notices have been mailed out to property owners for the 2024 taxation year. The actual bills get mailed out March 1st. New Brunswick’s overall assessment base – the total value of property assessments in the province – is $89.4 billion, an increase of 10.4 per cent, or $8.4 billion, since last year (We’re no math experts but we think that means your bill is probably going up). A property owner who disagrees with an assessment may file a request for review, free of charge, online (https://www2.snb.ca/content/snb/en/sites/property-assessment/submit/file.html) or by calling 1-888-762-8600. The deadline to file this request for the 2024 taxation year is Feb. 14.
Before you file, please ask yourself: “Could I have sold my property on January 1, 2024, for the assessed value stated on my notice?”
– If the answer is yes, no further action is required.
– If the answer is no, visit http://snb.ca/paol to search recent sale prices near you.
– If you still disagree, you can file a request for review online at http://snb.ca/assessment or by calling 1-888-762-8600.

NEW: As of Jan. 22, New Brunswick will waive first-time registration fees for all registered nurses. More than 1,360 RNs registered to practise in New Brunswick between Dec. 1, 2022 and Nov. 30, 2023, according to new NANB data. https://t.co/qb1wPCJ72S

The provincial government says newly graduated nursing students will be exempt from first-time registration fees. Health Minister Bruce Fitch says reducing barriers to nursing recruitment is part of a plan to increase staffing. The government says it’s committing 2.7-million dollars over five years toward the initiative, which is meant to enhance accessibility for applicants. The move is expected to save each recent nursing graduate about 500-dollars.
Some Riverview High School students are trying to help out with the homelessness issue. A group of seven grade niners at RHS are members of the Greater Moncton YMCA Community Action Network and they’re doing a clothing & supply drive for homeless people this month. The students are looking for donations of new or gently used hats, mittens, scarves, winter coats, winter boots, sleeping bags, sleeping mats, tents, tarps, mylar blankets, regular blankets, hygiene products, hand warmers, and warm clothing. They are also looking for donations of new and unworn men and women’s undergarments in sizes small to medium. The students will be collecting donations during school hours (8am-4pm) up until January 18th at Riverview High School – 400 Whitepine Rd, Riverview, New Brunswick. You will find their big red donation bin as you enter through the main foyer and turn right towards the Main Office.
