The Université de Moncton Aigles Bleues (9-4-0-2= 20pts, 3rd position) gave up 3 goals in the second period to fall 6-2 to the University of New Brunswick Reds (12-3-0-0=24pts, 1st position) in an Atlantic University Sport women’s hockey game at the Aitken University Centre on Wednesday evening.
The loss ended a 3-game winning streak for the Aigles Bleues, and the team missed its chance to move into a tie for first place.
Maritza Labrie in the first and Erica Plourde in the third scored for the visitors. Lillian George registered a trick for the Reds and Sydney Oitomen, Melanie Drost and Lauren Toner rounded out the scoring. Annick Boudreau made 26 saves in the loss and Cassie McCallum had 20 in the win. Moncton was 0-for-4 on the power play and UNB was 1-for-2.
“We lacked intensity during the game, from start to finish,” said coach Marc-André Côté of the Aigles Bleues. “There was a lack of effort on our part. It wasn’t the same team from last week. We have another big game on Friday with only one day to prepare.”
The Aigles Bleues will play the 2nd-place St. Francis Xavier University X-Women on Friday night at the J.-Louis-Lévesque Arena.
